In 'Sofa' (2019), British photographer Juno Calypso continues to explore the ideas of feminism, isolation, loneliness and the notion of being self-sufficient. In her typically stylised fashion, the piece depicts her alter-ego "Joyce" portrayed in solitude, desire and femininity through a dark comedy lens. In many ways the piece provides a study of the oppressive elements of femininity, its restrictive beauty regimes and of the modern rituals of seduction.
Of her work, Calypso has said "I'm trying to make a perfect photograph of a woman trying to create a perfect vision of herself".
