Alex Katz is a painter and printmaker. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927, he studied at The Cooper Union in Manhattan, graduating in 1949. Known for his bold portraits and landscapes, his work captures the immediacy of contemporary life with a flat, graphic clarity. Over a career spanning seven decades, Katz has become a defining figure in American art, influencing generations of painters.
