
Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman is a photographer and conceptual artist renowned for her groundbreaking work exploring identity, gender, and representation. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey in 1954, she studied at the State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating in 1976. Sherman gained international acclaim with her 'Untitled Film Stills' (1977–1980), a series of black-and-white photographs in which she posed as various fictional female characters, drawing on film, media, and art history. Throughout her career, she has continued to use self-portraiture to investigate the construction of persona and the role of the viewer. Sherman is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of her generation.
