Ed Ruscha
Ed Ruscha is a painter, printmaker, and photographer known for his iconic use of text and imagery drawn from American pop culture. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1937, he moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s to study at the Chouinard Art Institute. Ruscha gained prominence in the 1960s with word paintings and artist books such as Twentysix Gasoline Stations (1963), blending conceptual art with a distinctly West Coast sensibility. His work reflects a fascination with language, signage, and the urban landscape, making him a key figure in both Pop Art and conceptual movements.
