Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Felix Gonzalez-Torres was a conceptual artist known for his poetic, minimal works that explore themes of love, loss, and identity. Born in Cuba in 1957, he moved to the U.S. in the 1970s and earned an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His best-known works use materials like candy, paper stacks, and light strings and invite the viewer to interact and reflect on memory, absence, and impermanence. Often referencing his partner’s death from AIDS, his art is both political and deeply personal. Gonzalez-Torres died in 1996, leaving a profound legacy in contemporary art
