George Condo

George Condo

George Condo is an American painter known for his distinctive blend of traditional European painting techniques with contemporary figuration. Born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1957, he studied art history and music theory at the University of Massachusetts before moving to New York in the early 1980s. Condo rose to prominence with his “Artificial Realism,” a style that merges classical forms with distorted, cartoon-like characters. His work references artists from Velázquez to Picasso while injecting a dark, surreal humour. Condo has remained a major influence in contemporary art, bridging old master painting with modern psychological intensity.
