LS Lowry
L.S. Lowry was a British painter known for his distinctive depictions of industrial northern England. Born in Manchester in 1887, he worked as a rent collector while painting scenes of factories, streets, and crowds in a unique, simplified style. His “matchstick men” figures and muted palettes became iconic representations of working-class life. Despite early criticism, Lowry gained national acclaim and is now considered one of Britain’s most beloved 20th-century artists.
