Nan Goldin

Nan Goldin

Nan Goldin is an American photographer known for her intimate, raw images documenting love, identity, addiction, and the LGBTQ+ community. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1953, she rose to prominence in the 1980s with The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, a deeply personal slideshow of her friends and lovers. Her candid, diaristic style challenged conventions of beauty and portraiture, capturing moments of vulnerability and resilience. Goldin remains a powerful voice in contemporary photography and activism, especially in her recent work addressing the opioid crisis.
