Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist known for blending traditional Japanese art with contemporary pop culture through his colourful, anime-inspired style. Born in Tokyo in 1962, he studied at Tokyo University of the Arts and coined the term “Superflat” to describe his aesthetic, which merges high and low art. His work features recurring motifs like smiling flowers and cartoon figures, and he has collaborated with major brands like Louis Vuitton. Murakami is one of the most internationally recognised contemporary artists.
