About Cy Twombly
Cy Twombly was a painter and sculptor whose expressive, calligraphic work combined abstraction with references to mythology, poetry and history. Scribbled lines, gestures and fragments of text form a distinctive visual language. After studying at Black Mountain College, he moved to Italy, where these interests continued to shape his paintings and other works.
