Frank Bowling
Frank Bowling is a painter known for his vibrant explorations of colour, abstraction, and geography. Born in Guyana in 1934, he moved to London in the 1950s and studied at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1962 alongside peers like David Hockney. Bowling’s work blends lyrical abstraction with personal and political themes, often incorporating maps, poured paint, and textured surfaces. After relocating to New York in the late 1960s, he became a key figure in transatlantic modernism. Bowling was elected a Royal Academician in 2005 and continues to be celebrated for his contributions to both British and international abstraction.
