Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist known for her immersive installations, polka dots, and mirrored Infinity Rooms. Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, she began experiencing hallucinations as a child, visions that would shape her obsessive, psychedelic aesthetic. After rising to prominence in 1960s New York, she returned to Japan and has continued to create art from a psychiatric hospital where she lives voluntarily. Kusama’s iconic pumpkins, bold patterns, and visionary style have made her one of the most celebrated and best-selling living artists in the world.
