Yayoi Kusama (1929–2026) was a Japanese artist known for her immersive installations, polka dots, and mirrored Infinity Rooms. Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, she began experiencing hallucinations as a child, visions that would shape her obsessive, psychedelic aesthetic. After rising to prominence in 1960s New York, she returned to Japan in 1973 and continued to develop her paintings, sculptures and installations.
